It is crucial to have a nutrient-packed breakfast every day, says Swati Kumar Dwivedi, deputy head, Department Of Clinical Nutrition, Max Healthcare, New Delhi. A number of studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are not only much slimmer than those who don't, but are also less stressed and more focussed through the day. Our body needs fuel after a 7-8 hour sleep and a hearty breakfast helps to kick-start the day. Your breakfast should have a combination of complex carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fibre for energy and nutrition to last until lunch. Even if you have been skipping breakfast regularly and don't feel hungry, remember that it inevitably makes you hungrier at lunch time and increases your craving for unhealthy junk food later in the day.
